The Mastermind of McDonalds - Josh

I've been hiding undercover reading the McDonaldization-the reader book inside McDonalds itself! Stuffing my face with chips. It's hard not to, it's hypnotic - and those Monopoly Stickers? Who can resist? I'm missing one of each set now...

Anyway, the map shows the global spread of every McDonalds in America, I will find maps of Earthly spreads to see how cultures are linked with burgers. Here are the four steps McDonalds uses to control the food industry globaly.

  1. So i read in 'A Globalising World? Culture, Economics, Politics' that interested me. How globalisation can be seen as crushing a countries/ communities culture through Americanisation. I think McDonalds is definitely apart of this, having stores all over the globe, selling typically American food in many different countries with their own different cultural foods and almost crushing them with their cheap prices.

  2. I love that, even the layout of McDonalds is taken into account. The seats, the tables, the way the room has been decorated is all welcoming to the customer but it isn't comfortable or pleasing enough to make you want to stay longer after finishing your meal. Also, it's not just the food thats identical, its also the stores, they're all very similar, so the above theory will be relevant in every store. Very clever design...

  3. I agree with you, McDonalds are aiding Americanisation. Not only is the chain American but they are currently selling burgers which originate from different parts of America to give us 'the taste of America'.
